A Practical Guide for Cultural stARTuppers / Café Köntés
The “Cultural stARTuppers” initiative is a mini series of lectures that aims to give a hand to independent, freelancer artists or group of artists.
The Romanian scene of independent artists is still in its infancy, the shaping of it is mostly influenced by the often unclear legal framework: the cultural stARTuppers have to find their way around among many regulations and laws that are many times contradictory.
The mini series of lectures entitled “A Practical Guide For Cultural stARTuppers” will be held in the framework of the Saint George StartUp Week on the 18th of October, Wednesday on the first floor of the Cafe Köntés. The four lecturers will talk to and with independent artists, creatives and artistic groups but those employed who also participate in private projects are also welcome.
Some of the proposed topics:
How can you protect yourself with contracts, what kind of contracts are available for freelancers?
What can you do if you don’t have legal personality but still want to be payed for your work?
What the hell is a legal personality for a freelancer: PFA, II, Micro enterprise, and what do they mean and what is most suitable for you?
How shall you communicate about your work, your event: event, page, newspaper, radio, pictures or storytelling?
What kind of scholarships, individual applications, residency programmes are available in Europe and in other parts of the world? How can you build partnerships with other cultural actors?
What is a cultural manager, if this profession even exists, shall we separate the cultural manager from the artist?
Would you like to apply to some funding? But don’t know where and how? Too much bureaucracy?
Our invitees will hold a lecture and debate in four main topics:
Csavar Noémi, accountant, financial expert from Miercurea Ciuc, having more than 20 years experience in the frightening field of money administration. She has been working with all kind of clients from freelancer artists to big companies.
Financial issues: What is the most suitable legal entity for your activity?
Iulia Popovici, cultural expert, UNITER winner theatre critic and cultural journalist. She has been writing articles and books about the cultural scene of Romania for many years, being a returning lecturer for many national and international conferences. As a devoted “social fighter” for the independent artistic scene, she is more than well prepared in the legal framework of freelancing.
Legal issues: What should you pay attention to when signing a contract, what kind of contracts are available for you?
Balázs Aaron, Founder and Creative Director of Szekler Design Legion.
“Cracks - or how I became an independent creative. As a humble person I am, I will speak about myself...
...and my path to freelancing and founding an advertising/design boutique in Szeklerland.
Marketing and communication for beginners and freelancers: How to market yourself?
Veres-Nagy Tímea, employed and freelancer cultural manager in the same time. Project manager and project evaluator, initiator of several international cultural partnerships. Mostly interested in cultural policies and in the phenomena of cultural well-being.
Trainings and applications: How to increase your knowledge, your network, your finances?
